The Kirkland Half Marathon course starts and finishes at Juanita Beach Park, showcasing some of Kirkland’s most beautiful neighborhoods along the way. The route is a scenic combination of road and crushed gravel on the Cross Kirkland Corridor Trail, offering views of Lake Washington for much of the distance. The half marathon features approximately 522 feet of elevation gain, while the 5K course is run on the roads in the neighborhoods surrounding the park with 172 feet of gain. Both courses provide a mix of natural beauty and local charm for participants.
What Makes It Special
Formerly known as the Mother’s Day Half, this event is a local tradition that supports Girls on the Run Puget Sound as its official charity partner. It stands out for its unique blend of paved roads and the crushed gravel terrain of the Cross Kirkland Corridor, providing a diverse running experience. The race is family-friendly, featuring a 1/2 mile kid’s race and high-quality swag including finisher medals and shirts for participants. Race Weekend Tips
Participants are encouraged to arrive early as parking at Juanita Beach Park and surrounding neighborhoods fills up quickly; a shuttle service is available from the Peter Kirk Municipal Parking Garage in downtown Kirkland. Packet pickup is offered on race morning starting at 6:15 AM or at REI Bellevue on a prior TBD date. Runners should bring their own bag for the Orca Running gear check truck to help reduce waste. Given the early May date, runners should prepare for typical Pacific Northwest spring weather, which can include mild temperatures and occasional rain.
