Course Highlights
The Spurs Austin International Half Marathon is engineered for speed. The point-to-point course begins at Stonelake Blvd in north Austin and descends roughly 300 feet over 13.1 miles — through the Domain shopping district, down MoPac, into the 38th Street corridor, and through the University of Texas neighborhood — before finishing at the Texas State Capitol. The nearly unbroken net downhill profile makes this one of the fastest half marathon courses in the South, and it has hosted numerous personal records and age group records over its 30+ year history.
Race Details
The 2027 Spurs Austin International Half Marathon is January 17, 2027, with a 7:30 AM start. Formerly known as the 3M Half Marathon for over three decades, the race rebranded with a partnership with the San Antonio Spurs NBA franchise, adding new energy and a fresh identity while maintaining the same beloved course. A Half Marathon Relay option is available for teams. Online registration remains open through 3:00 PM on race day or until sellout. No race-day packet pickup — all packets must be collected at the pre-race Expo.
The Downhill Experience
Few half marathons in America offer the sustained downhill momentum of the Spurs Austin International Half. The course drops from the suburban sprawl of north Austin through increasingly urban and then historic neighborhoods, building in excitement as the iconic dome of the Texas State Capitol grows larger in the distance. Finishing on the Capitol grounds — surrounded by state government buildings and cheering spectators — is one of the most memorable finish line experiences in Texas.
Why Runners Love It
As part of the Austin Distance Challenge series, the Spurs Austin International Half serves as the fourth race in a five-event season — coming at a critical point when fitness peaks and the Austin Marathon finish line is just weeks away. January in Austin offers cool, ideal racing conditions, and the downhill course consistently produces PRs. The race’s long history means it has deep roots in the Austin running community, with thousands of participants returning year after year.
