SUMMARY:Run Rabbit Run 50 & 100 Mile
DESCRIPTION:Course Highlights\nThe Run Rabbit Run takes place across the mountains surrounding Steamboat Springs\, starting and finishing at the base of the Steamboat Springs ski area at 6\,900 feet. The 50-mile course climbs to the summit of Mount Werner at 10\,568 feet\, descends into the valley\, and then makes a dramatic traverse across the Continental Divide to Rabbit Ears Mountain at 10\,500 feet before returning to the ski area base. The 100-mile course additionally circumnavigates Buffalo Pass at 10\,300 feet and winds through Emerald Mountain and through sections of downtown Steamboat Springs itself. Both courses are well-marked with colored ribbons through mountain wilderness that remains open to hikers and bikers. \nRace Details\nThe 2026 race weekend spans September 18–19. The 100-mile race starts Friday\, September 18 — ‘Tortoises’ (slower runners) at 9:00 AM and ‘Hares’ (faster runners) at 1:00 PM\, with respective cutoffs of 36 and 30 hours. The 50-mile race starts Saturday\, September 19 at 6:00 AM\, with an early bird option for men over 60 and women over 50 at 5:00 AM; finish cutoff is 9:00 PM (15 hours). A legendary post-race party begins around noon at the finish line\, featuring beer\, burgers\, and veggie burgers — free to runners and volunteers. It’s hunting season in Colorado during this event; bright colors are encouraged. \nWhy Runners Love It\nSteamboat Springs is one of Colorado’s most welcoming mountain towns\, and the Run Rabbit Run reflects that character with a warm\, community-driven atmosphere. The race is known for its excellent course marking\, honest race management\, and the combination of ski resort trails\, alpine wilderness\, and an actual run through town that puts spectators within easy cheering distance. The tortoise/hare format for the 100-miler is one of the most practical approaches to managing a diverse ultrarunning field. \nRace Weekend Tips\nMid-September in Steamboat can bring cool mornings (high 30s°F) and warm afternoons\, with the possibility of early snowfall above 10\,000 feet. It is legally hunting season in Colorado — wear bright colors on course and avoid anything that looks like elk coloring. Steamboat Springs has a vibrant resort town atmosphere with excellent dining and accommodation; book well in advance as the race weekend coincides with peak fall travel. Crew access points are limited\, so plan your support strategy carefully. \nRegister\nRegistration details are available at runrabbitrunsteamboat.com and via UltraSignup. Check the official website for 2026 registration opening dates.
