SUMMARY:Atlas Mountain Race
DESCRIPTION:The Atlas Mountain Race is a grueling 1\,350km unsupported\, single-stage mountain adventure across Morocco’s High Atlas and Anti-Atlas ranges. \nCourse Highlights\nThe Atlas Mountain Race (AMR) is a legendary off-road adventure that takes participants through some of the most rugged and breathtaking landscapes in Morocco. For the 2026 edition\, the course underwent a significant transformation\, moving its starting point to Beni Mellal. This new route explores the heart of the High Atlas\, including the spectacular gorges of M’Goun. Riders navigate a complex network of forgotten colonial pistes\, high mountain passes\, and scorched desert plains. Notable highlights include the Tizi N’Aït Imi pass\, which stands as the highest point ever featured in the race at 2\,910 meters\, and the palm-fringed oasis of Aguinane. The journey concludes at the historic Atlantic port town of Essaouira\, providing a dramatic transition from snow-capped peaks to the coastal breeze. \nRace Details\nThe Atlas Mountain Race is defined as a fixed-route\, unsupported\, single-stage event. Spanning approximately 1\,350 kilometers with a staggering 25\,000 meters of vertical elevation gain\, it is a test of extreme endurance and self-sufficiency. There are no prizes\, and the clock never stops. Participants must carry all their own gear and manage their own resupply\, often crossing vast distances between remote mountain villages. The race typically takes place in February\, presenting riders with a diverse range of weather conditions\, from freezing alpine temperatures to intense desert heat. Riders can compete in the solo or pairs categories\, with the primary goal being to reach the finish line within the eight-day time limit. The event is managed by the team behind the Silk Road Mountain Race\, ensuring a high standard of logistical challenge and adventure. \nWhy Runners Love It\nWhile the Atlas Mountain Race is primarily a bikepacking event\, it draws athletes with a “runner’s soul”—those who thrive on long-distance mountain endurance and the grit required for high-altitude survival. The sheer scale of the Moroccan backcountry offers an unparalleled sense of isolation and beauty that attracts ultra-endurance athletes from around the globe. Participants are drawn to the authenticity of the experience\, interacting with local communities in remote regions rarely visited by tourists. The physical and mental challenge of navigating “hike-a-bike” sections and technical rocky descents mirrors the demands of elite trail running. It is a journey that transcends sport\, offering a profound connection to the land and a test of character that participants describe as a life-changing experience. \nFor more information on upcoming editions and how to apply for this extraordinary challenge\, please visit the official Atlas Mountain Race website. \nAt a Glance\n\nLocation: Beni Mellal\, Béni Mellal-Khénifra — Morocco\nNext Date: TBD — date not yet announced\nDistances: [‘1350 km’]\nStart Time: 18:00\n\nRegister & Learn More\nVisit the official race website for entry details\, course maps\, and registration: https://www.themountainraces.cc/atlas-mountain-race

SUMMARY:Crater Lake Rim Runs
DESCRIPTION:Course Highlights\nThe Crater Lake Rim Runs take place entirely along the rim of Crater Lake in Crater Lake National Park\, one of America’s most awe-inspiring natural landscapes. All three running distances and the walk option follow the paved Rim Drive — with the final four miles of the marathon on dirt and pumice cinder roads — at elevations ranging from 5\,980 to 7\,850 feet above sea level. The panoramic views of Crater Lake\, formed by the collapse of ancient Mount Mazama 7\,700 years ago and filled with 1\,943 feet of impossibly blue water\, are visible for nearly every mile. Long climbs and descents of nearly 1\,000 feet over five-mile stretches add athletic challenge to the visual magnificence. \nRace Details\nNow in its fifth decade (47th annual as of 2024)\, the Crater Lake Rim Runs take place in early August — typically the second Saturday — starting at 7:30 a.m. from the Rim Village parking area. Course closures: 6.7-mile run at 9:30 a.m.\, 13-mile run at 10:00 a.m.\, and marathon at 1:00 p.m. The race is limited to 500 participants and fills quickly. Registration opens March 1st. Participants must be at least 10 years old for the 6.7-mile option and 18 for the marathon. No registration is permitted inside the park. \nWhy Runners Love It\nThere is no race venue in Oregon — arguably in America — that rivals Crater Lake for sheer geological and visual grandeur. Running around the rim of a caldera filled with the purest water on earth\, with Wizard Island rising from the lake’s center and the Cascades extending in every direction\, is a transcendent experience. The high altitude and honest climbs make every finish a genuine achievement\, and the remoteness of the park means participants experience the lake at its quietest\, before summer crowds arrive. \nRace-Weekend Tips\nAltitude acclimatization is essential — arrive a day early if coming from sea level. The Rim Village and Crater Lake Lodge offer on-site lodging but book months in advance. The park entrance fee applies to all visitors. Register as soon as registration opens on March 1st. Bring layers; Crater Lake rim temperatures can drop dramatically even in August. \nRun the rim of one of America’s great wonders — register at Crater Lake Rim Runs.
