Running a marathon in itself is already an impressive feat, but what about running a marathon in one of the world\u2019s most magnificent archaeological sites that\u2019s located in the middle of a desert? That\u2019s the Petra Desert Marathon, and it\u2019s a challenge that\u2019s not for the faint of heart.
\nWith breathtaking landscapes, ancient city structures, and a route that\u2019s both challenging and exciting, running the Petra Desert Marathon<\/a> is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure that takes you to a time and place that an ordinary tourist would never get to see.<\/p>\n

The History:<\/h5>\n

Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the \u201cNew Seven Wonders of the World,\u201d has become the perfect backdrop for this race, which has taken place since 2010. The scenery is indeed breathtaking, from starting the race on a dusty road that\u2019s surrounded by spectacular rock formations to the stunning view of The Treasury, a historic temple carved from sandstone when you reach the finish line.<\/p>\n

The Course:<\/h5>\n

The course is a mixture of rocky, sandy, and dirt paths, and includes some uphill climbs and downhills, too. But the challenge is nothing compared to the breathtaking views that can leave a runner feeling inspired and awestruck. The most significant challenge, though, is not the heat, but the dust, which can get inside your shoes and mess up the alignment of your feet.<\/p>\n

The local community is actively involved, providing food and drinks at the aid stations, and cheering the runners along the way.
