The Crested Butte Ultra is a showcase of the extraordinary terrain surrounding one of Colorado’s most beloved mountain towns. Three distances — 35K, 55K, and 50 Mile — traverse the Gunnison National Forest on lollipop-loop courses that combine wide-open mountain meadows blanketed with wildflowers at lower elevations, heart-pumping climbs to dramatic mountain ridgelines, and single-track trails through aspen groves that glow gold in late September. The course elevation ranges from approximately 7,500 to 12,500 feet across the 50-mile distance, with the shorter races covering the most scenic lower sections.
Race Details
The 2026 race takes place Saturday, September 26. The 50 Miler starts at 6:00 AM, the 55K at 7:00 AM, and the 35K at 8:00 AM. Time cutoffs are 15 hours (50 mile) and 12 hours (55K). The 50-mile course features 8,300 feet of elevation gain across 6 aid stations. The 55K covers 4,567 feet of gain. The race is produced by Mad Moose Events and has grown into one of the most anticipated events on Colorado’s fall trail racing calendar, particularly for its timing with peak aspen foliage.
