The ASICS Falmouth Road Race is one of the most iconic road races in the United States — a 7-mile point-to-point along the southern Cape Cod coastline from Woods Hole to Falmouth Heights. First run in 1973 with a field of just 92 runners, Falmouth has grown into a world-class event that draws Olympic medalists, elite international runners, and more than 10,000 recreational participants every August.
Course Highlights
The race begins in the historic village of Woods Hole, home of the renowned oceanographic institution, and heads along Surf Drive past Nobska Lighthouse with sweeping views of Vineyard Sound and Martha’s Vineyard in the distance. Miles 3 through 6 hug the Atlantic shoreline with classic New England beach cottages and shingled summer houses lining the route. The course finishes near Falmouth Heights Beach overlooking the ocean — one of the most beautiful finish lines in American road racing.
A Race With Deep Roots
Falmouth has a legendary history. Bill Rodgers, Joan Benoit Samuelson, Frank Shorter, Catherine Ndereba, and countless other Olympic and world champions have raced here. The race serves as a tune-up for the New York City Marathon and a meeting point for the running community at the height of summer. Despite its elite pedigree, it remains a community event with charity teams, family relays, kids’ races, and an unmistakable Cape Cod festival atmosphere.
