Race day takes place against a stunning backdrop of natural beauty and fresh spring blooms. All racers can expect incredible views of azaleas, dogwoods, and roses, as they run through the gardens. This event may sound like a walk in the park, but race organizers have ensured that the course will provide enough of a physical challenge to satisfy even experienced runners.
The race day schedule begins bright and early, with the 5k race kicking off at 7:30 a.m. These will be followed by the half marathon starting at 8 a.m. and the full marathon beginning at 8:15 a.m. Participants can expect to navigate rolling hills along a two-loop course beginning from the garden entrance before diving into the woods. Medals will be awarded to all participants on completion.
Race organizers have been working hard to put together various pre and post-race events for the runners. Local vendors will have their expo set up on-site, and this year’s event will also feature a family-friendly kids’ zone. The gardens’ restaurants will be open for business throughout the event, offering menu specials and a selection of beverages (including local brews!) for those in need of sustenance.
Care for the environment is a top priority for marathon organizers. Visitors and participants will appreciate the eco-friendly measures put in place that minimize waste. Runners are encouraged to bring reusable water containers that they can use to refill at hydration stations located throughout the course.
