Course Highlights
Run the Alamo delivers the most historically rich running experience in Texas. The sunrise start at Hemisfair — marked by a live cannon blast and multiple musket volleys — immediately signals that this is no ordinary race. The Boston Qualifier-certified course runs literally past the Alamo on Houston Street, winds through the San Pedro Cultural Park, passes the iconic San Fernando Cathedral, meanders through the tree-lined King William Historic District, and visits the World Heritage Spanish colonial Missions before returning along the famous River Walk to a triumphant finish at Hemisfair and the Tower of the Americas.

Free phone tracking is available via the ACTIVE Experience app.
San Antonio’s Only Local Marathon
Run the Alamo occupies a unique place in San Antonio’s running community as the only locally produced full marathon in the city. While the December San Antonio Marathon draws large fields, Run the Alamo in March offers a spring alternative with arguably the more dramatic course — running past the Alamo itself and threading through the UNESCO World Heritage Mission District gives the race a sense of historical gravity that few marathons anywhere can match. The cannon blast start at sunrise over Hemisfair is a ritual that brings runners back year after year.
Why Runners Love It
March in San Antonio strikes the perfect balance for racing — warm enough to feel the city’s energy, cool enough for fast times. The sunrise start means the Alamo and historic downtown are bathed in golden morning light as runners pass through, creating extraordinary race photos. The BQ certification makes this a legitimate PR course for serious runners, while the festive atmosphere and historical setting make it equally rewarding for those running it for the experience. The 15th anniversary milestone in 2027 adds extra reason to make this the year you run it.
