San Diego Pride 5K: Run, Walk, and Celebrate in Hillcrest
The San Diego Pride 5K Run + Walk is more than a race — it’s a community celebration that takes place along the heart of one of San Diego’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Organized by Front Runners & Walkers San Diego (FRWSD) and held on July 18, 2026, as part of San Diego Pride Week (July 15–19), this 5K runs along the same route as the iconic Pride Parade through Hillcrest and into Balboa Park.
The Course
The out-and-back 5K starts and finishes at University Avenue and Richmond Street in Hillcrest at 8:00 AM. Runners and walkers head west on University Avenue, turn south on 6th Avenue, enter the northern edge of Balboa Park, and reach the halfway turnaround before retracing their steps to the finish. The course is flat and accessible, running through the tree-lined streets and the festively decorated commercial corridor that defines Hillcrest. It’s a best 5K in San Diego for a social race experience — walkers are fully welcome and very much part of the event.

A free shuttle runs from designated parking areas to the start, making logistics easy even during the busy Pride Week period. Parking can be tight during Pride Week; taking advantage of the free race shuttle from designated lots is highly recommended. The Hillcrest neighborhood itself is packed with cafes, brunch spots, and restaurants — perfect for post-race celebrations. Book accommodations early if you’re staying during Pride Week, as the area fills quickly.
